বাংলা ইশারা ভাষার অধিকাংশ ইশারা বাংলাদেশের (বা দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার) নিজস্ব বলে মনে করা হয় এবং বিদেশের অন্য কোনও ইশারা ভাষার সাথে এর কোনও সম্পর্ক নাই। তবে, কিছু ইশারা বিদেশি ইশারার সাথে হুবহু মিলে যায় বা কিছু সাদৃশ্য রয়েছে, যেমন মার্কিন ইশারা ভাষা (ASL) বা অন্য কোনও বিদেশি ভাষা থেকে।

কিছু ইশারা বিদেশি ইসলামী উৎস থেকেও এসেছে মনে করা হয়। কখনও কখনও এই বিদেশি ইশারাগুলো স্থানীয় ইশারার পাশাপাশি ব্যবহৃত হয় (যেমন ধন্যবাদ-এর বিভিন্ন ইশারা, যার মধ্যে কিছু ASL থেকে এসেছে, এবং কিছু হল ইসলামি ইশারা), কিন্তু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে এগুলো স্থানীয় ইশারাকে প্রতিস্থাপন করেছে (যেমন বছর-এর ইশারা)।

আমাদের গবেষণা থেকে আমরা নিশ্চিতভাবে বলতে পারছি না যে এগুলো ঠিক ASL থেকে সরাসরি এসেছে, নাকি অন্য কোনও ভাষা থেকে এসেছে যা থেকে ASL-ও শব্দ গ্রহণ করেছে, অথবা এটা নিছকই একটা কাকতালীয় ঘটনা। এমনকি যখন এটা স্পষ্ট থাকে যে কোনো ইশারা এসেছে অন্য ভাষা থেকে, তখনও আমরা সবসময় নিশ্চিত হতে পারি না যে এর উৎস হল ASL নাকি অন্য কোনো প্রভাবশালী ভাষা। এ বিষয়ে আরও জানার জন্য গবেষণা চলছে।

The vast majority of signs in Bangla SL are believed to be indigenous to Bangladesh (or South Asia more generally), and have no connection to other sign languages abroad. However, some signs appear identical to or share some similarities with foreign signs, such as those of American Sign Language (ASL) or internationally-used Islamic signs.

Sometimes these foreign signs are used alongside local signs (like the different signs for THANKS, some of which come from ASL, and some of which are Islamic signs), but in some cases they have overtaken the local signs (like the sign for YEAR).

From our research, we cannot be sure if these are direct loans from foreign languages, or simply a coincidence. Even when it is clear we have a borrowing, we are not always sure if the source is ASL or some other influential language. More research is underway to learn more.

ASL সামঞ্জস্য | ASL concordance

যে ইশারাগুলোকে আমরা ASL ইশারার কিছু সাদৃশ্য আছে বলে মনে করেছি, সেগুলোকে "ASL-সমঞ্জস" লেবেল দিয়ে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে। মনে রাখবেন যে, এর মানে এই নয় যে ইশারাটা ASL থেকেই এসেছে, এর মানে শুধু এই যে এই ইশারাটা দেখতে ASL ইশারার মতো, বা হুবহু একই ইশারা। আমাদের ইশারাভাষীদের দ্বারা ব্যবহৃত কিছু ASL-সমঞ্জস শব্দ নিচে দেওয়া হলো:

• দেশি শব্দের পাশাপাশি ব্যবহৃত: ইন্টারনেট, কম্পিউটার, কাজ, জন্ম, ধন্যবাদ, নাম, নিষেধ, পরিবার, পায়খানা, মরা

• দেশি শব্দ প্রতিস্থাপন করেছে: কে, কেন, চেষ্টা, নতুন, বছর, ভুল

নিচে আপনি ধন্যবাদ, চেষ্টা, নিষেধ এবং কম্পিউটার শব্দগুলোর ASL-সমঞ্জস ইশারাগুলো দেখতে পারেন।

Those signs which we have deemed to appear similar to ASL signs are marked with the label "ASL-concordant". Keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean the sign comes from ASL, it only means it looks similar to (or is identical to) the ASL sign. Some ASL-concordant words used by our signers include the following:

• used alongside native words: birth, computer, dead, family, feces, internet, name, prohibited, thank you, work

• replaced native words: new, try, who, why, wrong, year

Below you can see the ASL-concordant signs for thank you, try, prohibited, and computer.

ইসলামী সামঞ্জস্য | Islamic concordance

যে ইশারাগুলোকে আমরা আন্তর্জাতিক ইসলামী ইশারার কিছু সাদৃশ্য আছে বলে মনে করেছি, সেগুলোকে "ইসলামী-সমঞ্জস" লেবেল দিয়ে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে। মনে রাখবেন যে, এটা কোনো নির্দিষ্ট উৎস ভাষাকে চিহ্নিত করে না, এর অর্থ কেবল এই যে, এটা বিভিন্ন ভাষায় ব্যবহৃত কোনো ইসলামিক ইশারার অনুরূপ (বা অভিন্ন)।

Keep in mind that this does not necessarily identify a specific source language, it only means it looks similar to (or is identical to) an Islamic sign used across languages.
