My name is Anna and I am a freshman this year. I am majoring in Graphic design. I love painting and digital art. I just recently purchased a cricut and heat press and am in the make of a small business! I am from around here so I live off campus at home with my family and my brother also goes to GVSU as well. I went to the Careerline Tech Center for Graphic Design and to the left is actually one of my projects.
I was attracted to these images because I relate to all of them... when I see pumpkins, I think of comfy clothes and movies... when I see plants I think growing and/or dying, also succulents are the only plants I like... lastly when I see or even think of the lake during summer, I instantly am relaxed and at peace. I appreciate that these words were not randomly generated, because I do not like things that do not make sense. Great job Anna!
Right now, I am nicely folded on the bathroom shelf. It is very warm and cozy. I am on top of one other towel, and there are 2 towels on top of me and a few stacked next to me. I spend my days waiting in line to be picked next. It is dark most of the time, until I see my house hold members come into the bathroom to use it. When it is my turn, I am taken off the shelf and get put next to the shower. I wrap around one of the two humans that use me. I dry them off. I like the pleasure of knowing I keep them warm and dry. I get neglected and tossed on the floor, and then eventually I get sweeped up and get to go have fun! I first go into the dark place next to other dirty clothe type materials and some of my towel friends. Then I get picked up and thrown into a circle area where it sprays water and soap on me and spins me around. I look forward to it and after I am all clean again. I get put into another circle area that is very warm and cozy. I get taken out and brought back to my shelf to wait in line again for the fun spin.
Random words: Accident, grief, lemon, frighten, shark
I was chillin on the beach in florida drinking an ice tea with a lemon over the glass. I was with a few of my closests friends. We decided to go into the ocean to swim on our floaties. All of a sudden we were all very frightened because we saw a fin on the water coming towards us. We hoped it was a dolphin but we were very scared that it was a shark. All of a sudden one of my friends was gone. She was pulled under the water by the shark. we were so scared we did not know what to do so we just swam quickly back to shore to get help. Our friend was eaten by the shark. We ran to the shore and yelled that there was an accident. I have never delt with this type of grief before. It is hard losing a friend and I will never set foot in the ocean again.
Shara Hughes is an Contemporary American Painter from Atlanta. She is 41 years old. She is known for using vibrant colors and focuses on landscapes. She describes her work as invtened landscapes. She uses a lot of motifs in her work. One cool thing about her is she does not use reference photos. She uses the world around her. She makes her own one of a kind color pallettes to point to art historical movements. She likes to go for the fairy tale dream like landscapes. She likes to use texture, pattern and prepective in her work to decribe something that doesnt always make sense.
Ai Weiwei- human activist
Ai wweiwei makes his artwork about chinese political and social issues. He was taken by the chinese government, so people were showing his work for him the best they could without upsetting the chinese goverment. Many people wanted to help. He couldnt attend his own inauguration because he was taken. The inauguration was of the circle of animals which was zodiac signs Weiwei made in a circle. He picked up art from his father and at first didnt call himself an artist. He said that the objects he used for his srt were useless and he wanted people to realize it was art.
PROJECT
For my project I want to do it with playmobile from my childhood. I would paint it purple because that was a color from my childhood. I would like to mess around with the parts of playmobile and arrange them in different ways.

Our installation piece, Tranquil, is installed in the window area of the Calder Art Center. Our installed object we chose were orbeez because they were a big part of our childhood. We also chose orbeez because they symbolize how we grow, mature, and get older. We get to a point in our lives where we are fully grown and when we are at peace and tranquil.
