Collect many many multiples of a common object(or multiple objects) and install the set in some part of the local environment around the GVSU Visual & Media Arts Building. As a guide install between 15 and 100 items and generally select items smaller than a person.
If you have a large amount of fabric or other long stretch of material that takes up space you may also use that(such as a reflective emergency blanket, rice paper, aluminum foil etc.)
Students will work in teams made up of 4 individuals.
Groups must conceive of the Idea, the Materials, the Site, Instructor Approval, and one good contemporary artist reference
Optional: after conceptualization phase designate group members into roles such as:
Material Acquisition
Site Reconnaissance
Concept Writer/ Tech Rider
Hands on Crafting
Documentation Specialist
Significance of Objects
Objects are visually compelling, substantive enough to make a significant impact on a site, and offer interesting denotative and connotative associations
Significance of Site
Site is physically or functionally/ conceptually relevant to the objects and their mode of installation
Composition of Site and Objects
Composition is well-considered, with a clear focal point
Impact on Viewer
Objects and site offer a compelling shift from the site’s original impact, allowing the viewer to reconsider their environment. Ambition of installation is appropriately scaled to the number of collaborators, taking on a significant volume of space/intricate mode of fabrication, etc.
Craft
Objects, mode of connection, and other physical details of the construction of elements and installation were well-crafted and did not distract visually from the overall work
Logistics
Work was installed and de-installed in a timely fashion, with no adverse effects on the site or to the function of the site.
Peer Review
Your contribution to the project, as evaluated by your group members, was key in terms of idea formation, logistics and construction, troubleshooting, etc.
