300-word assignment project
My project item is a soccer ball. I would like to change the ball by either putting a weight on it or wrapping it in some type of wire and locking it closed. I want to change the object in a way that it is no longer able to be used for its intended purpose. I want the deeper meaning to show and come through in that way. The ball represents my last ever soccer season that I was not able to play. My soccer ball was put into covid jail and was never let out. My high school soccer career ended with a lock on my ball, never to be opened again. I also thought about using barbed wire so that it hurts to kick. I could also change the ball structure by kitting the ball open and causing it to pop and deflate, it could create another twist onto the deeper meaning, the ball will no longer be in use if its flat and unrepairable, like my senior year soccer season was unable to be fixed. I could also place it in an unusual location or position to make it seem like it’s not right. Like hanging the ball from something. Soccer balls are known for being in the grass and not hovering in midair. It could be in midair representing one last kick of the ball before it became unusable, or it could hang down from a net and be tangled in it. Another idea would be to paint the ball in an unrecognizable way, soccer balls are known for being black and white. It could be orange or purple to throw things off. There are many different ways I could go about this but I think my final plan will be to get an old and used up soccer ball, and officially retire it. Lock it up for good.

Louise Bourgeois is a sculptural artist. She specializes in making her art have meaning. Most of her artwork involves hands. Bourgeois loved the concept of life, from child to grandmother. That’s what one of her sculptures represents. She claims there is nothing more significant than the human hand and I agree. After watching her video, I have a new respect for artwork representing autobiography’s. Her most recent sculpture is many hands and partial arms put onto stones and placed in a public area. She has put her trust into strangers not to destroy her artwork while its displayed. “My childhood has never lost its magic. It has never lost its mystery. It has never lost its drama.” She is known by her large sculptures. She was very fond of spiders, hands, and other random objects. She was actively creating art for 80 years.
Instulation writing
My group includes Morgan, Daisy, and Brenna. We decided that for our installation project will use yarn as the main material. Our location is outside using a tree and a table with chairs. To begin out project we spent many hours finger knitting the yarn to create more textured material and give it a new and different look. Along with that, we are using many different colors of yarn to create a bright and eye-catching installation.
The meaning my group is trying to put a focus on, is environmental issues. A lot of the time there are real world issues that we humans look past daily, we put a blanket over the problem. So that is what we are doing, we are using yarn to put a blanket over the issue. We originally were going to wrap a bench to reflect the homeless, but then changed our idea slightly to reflect the need for taking care of the environment and the homeless. The more we trash the planet, the more trees we kill, along with more homeless people struggling every day, digging through all the trash we use every day. Yet we continue to put a blanket over the issue.
