Analysis

Glimmora is the quintessential HO lead in the 35 Pokes metagame. Whilst it may have a bit competition with Accelgor, this is most likely an exaggeration as Glimmora is almost always better.

Thanks to its amazing ability Toxic Debris which sets up Toxic Spikes when getting hit by a contact move, as well access to Spikes and Stealth Rocks, Glimmora is capable of overwhelming your opponents with hazards very quickly. Access to Mortal Spin as well means that Glimmora is capable of removing hazards on your side of the field, giving it even more utility. Glimmora can also use Memento to make opposing Pokemon setup fodder, as well as potentially preventing a slow Pokémon from using Defog. Glimmora is able to threaten Hatterene with huge damage (252 SpA Glimmora Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hatterene: 218-260 (68.5 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery). Glimmora can also threaten the main Rapid Spinner in the format, Starmie, with Energy Ball, which also does huge damage (252 SpA Glimmora Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Starmie: 226-266 (69.7 - 82%) -- guaranteed 2HKO). While this may be a niche option, Glimmora could use Mud Shot to lower opposing set-up threats.

Glimmora has its issues unfortunately. Glimmora, despite having access to Earth Power, can not hit Slowking-G very hard (252 SpA Glimmora Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Slowking-Galar: 136-160 (34.5 - 40.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO). This will mean that Slowking-Galar can get a free Chilly Reception or Trick Room off in front of it, and switch to an offensive threat, putting your team on the back foot. Furthermore, there are many hazard removal options, so even if you get your hazards now, there is no guarantee you will keep them, especially with the lack of a ghost type in this meta. A Glimmora that isn’t at full HP will die to Krookodile Earthquake in one hit, and if you don’t have a ground type then Krookodile will get a free kill and a potential Moxie Boost.

Glimmora also has potential to be a powerful sweeper Pokémon. With access to meteor beam, it is capable of firing off huge damage (90% of the time) while boosting its SpAtk by +1. With an extremely high 130 SpAtk, Glimmora can very easily clean up late games. However, it is a gimmick set for a reason. Glimmora’s speed stat, while not bad, it is not enough to keep up with the high speed of this meta. And while you could use Rock Polish to fix this, Glimmora isn’t very bulky, meaning it can be hard to find a situation where it can tank a hit and use Rock Polish. But hey! At least you might get a Toxic Spike out of it! Glimmora is also completely walled by Clodsire (+1 252 SpA Glimmora Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Unaware Clodsire: 142-168 (30.6 - 36.2%) -- 51% chance to 3HKO).

So in conclusion, Glimmora on paper is a very good mon, and it is a decent mon in the meta, don’t get me wrong. However, whatever Glimmora wants to do, there will always be counterplay, so Glimmora users must be very careful.
