Analysis
With the coveted Ice/Ground STAB combination, as well as a huge base 130 attack that could be further bolstered by Life Orb or Choice Band, Mamoswine is an amazing wall breaker, being able to destroy numerous Pokémon in this meta. Whilst Banded is probably the best item here, other items can be used if you want your Mamoswine to carry Stealth Rock.
His strong STAB Banded Earthquake is capable of OHKOing a max HP Scizor after Stealth Rock, as well as doing heavy damage to defensive staples like Lanturn, Quagsire and Blissey. Switchins to Earthquake like Chesnaught and Mandibuzz will quickly find out that Mamoswine clicked Icicle Crash, decimating the so called “switchins”. Mamoswine can also act as a revenge killer thanks to its access to Ice Shard, as well as providing utility in the form of Knock Off.
Mamoswine, however, has its shortcomings. Its amazing type combination gets completely walled by the omnipresent Rotom-Heat, which can further annoy Mamoswine by burning it, making its wallbreaking potential nonexistent. While one can also slot in Stone Edge for Rotom Heat, this will mean having to drop Ice Shard or Knock Off, both of which are valuable for Mamoswine.
It’s typing, while amazing offensively, is not as great defensively. Mamoswine finds itself being easily revenged by Scizor (252+ Atk Metal Coat Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mamoswine: 312-368 (86.4 - 101.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock). However, if you want to switch out, you risk the Scizor clicking U-Turn, or even worse, Swords Dance. Mamoswine also is greatly annoyed by Sableye, as it doesn’t want to risk being burned. Usage of Mamoswine should be paired with a Rotom-Heat. Not only does Rotom-Heat switch into Will-O-Wisps, but it can also beat a Scizor 1v1, which Mamoswine greatly appreciates.
