Analysis
Heliolisk is one of the fastest special attackers in the format, only being outsped by Talonflame, Alolan Raichu and Cyclizar. Heliolisk can differentiate itself from Alolan Raichu thanks to its notably higher Special Attack stat and Normal STAB, making it a more effective Choice Specs user. Its ability Dry Skin is also useful for being one of the best Rotom-Wash switchins. Heliolisk typically runs Thunderbolt and Volt Switch; Volt Switch allowing Heliolisk to pivot out on defensive Pokemon that can take its attacks like specially defensive Registeel and Bellibolt. Hyper Voice is Heliolisk's secondary STAB option which lets Heliolisk target Electric resists like Arboliva and Cyclizar. Hyper Voice also lets Heliolisk target foes behind a Substitute from Cyclizar's Shed Tail. Heliolisk's coverage options include Surf, which allows Heliolisk to target opposing Ground-types such as Runerigus and Trapinch and also targets Fire-types like Delphox. Heliolisk can also fit Focus Blast to hit Registeel harder as well as Probopass. However, Surf is more effective due to handling Ground types and Surf doesn't suffer from accuracy issues.
Choice Specs Heliolisk is a great offensive partner for Choice Band Sirfetch'd. Its ability to threaten Talonflame, which is one of Sirfetch'd best defensive checks is pivotal for Sirfetch'd's effectiveness at wallbreaking utilizing First Impression and Close Combat. Talonflame also supports Heliolisk itself due to its Fighting resistance and Ground immunity, supporting its two weaknesses. Runerigus provides hazards to support the double choiced wallbreaking core and Runerigus can check Iron Defense Registeel sets. Choice Scarf Mabosstiff rounds off the team, being able to outrun the fastest Pokemon in the tier, Talonflame, and can also use Destiny Bond to trade KOs. Cacturne is a deterrent for Electric Terrain teams, specifically Alolan Raichu, which the team struggles against.
