Analysis

Qwilfish is one of the best Utility Pokémon in 35 Pokes. An excellent defensive typing on top of an excellent ability in Intimidate, as well as a fantastic 85 Speed stat, tying it as the second fastest Pokémon with Golduck, Overqwil, Ledian and Pinsir, and only slower than Galvantula. Qwilfish gives its team amazing support, with hazards in the form of Spikes and Toxic Spikes, which are both excellent, however Spikes is probably better due to the presence of good Poison types like opposing Qwilfish, Overqwil and Arbok. Both Taunt and Haze are good for stopping setup sweepers, and Barb Barrage or Toxic are good for damage and dissuading Rapid Spin Tsareena from staying in. Thunder Wave is good for crippling opponents, and Qwilfish’s decent speed stat when uninvested allows it to spread paralysis with ease. Flip Turn is great for momentum grabbing, and Pain Split is a way to gain health although it’s a bit inconsistent. Max HP and Max Defense as well as a Rocky Helmet makes Qwilfish the ultimate Physical Tank.

Qwilfish can also be a great hyper offense lead. It’s amazing speed stat allows it to setup hazards and status with relative ease, and a Focus Sash guarantees two of these can be setup. Explosion can be great for when you want to do decent damage and give a free switch to one of your threats, but Destiny Bond can grab KOs on unsuspecting trainers.

Qwilfish can also be a great rain setter with it’s rare combo of Rain Dance + a pivot move. It’s ability Intimidate allows it to come in and setup Rain Dance multiple times.

Qwilfish is very frail on the special side, but if you are careful with that, you will reap the benefits of one of the best utility Pokémon in 35 Pokes.
