Analysis
You know it, I know it, everyone's been talking about it. Staraptor is undoubtably one of the top prospective threats going into the September metagame. Banded Brave Bird or Double Edge OHKOs nearly anything that isn't a resist, and the few that manage that struggle to outlast a follow-up Close Combat. U-Turn allows for pivoting, though its move set has other potential options, such as Pursuit for Psychic and Ghost trapping, Roost on Life Orb sets, or Defog if you really hate Stealth Rocks.
Generally speaking, expect to see a lot of Banded or Scarfed sets, with perhaps a dash of Life Orb. Band carries immediate power off of a very respectable 328 speed, while Scarf can outspeed any non-boosted mon in the metagame for the cost of less immediate damage. If you're making a team, you need a way to switch into Staraptor, or you are going to have several holes blown into you very, very quickly.
That being said, that is not Staraptor's only potential role. It does have good utility with Intimidate, ground immunity, and the aforementioned Defog and Roost, allowing it to be servicable in that role. Don't be fooled, though, because while its defenses are still ass, an unvested Brave Bird can still destroy more frail targets.
Potential walls for this son of a beak are few and far between. Watch the skies, because this is the second time a stupid bird has ripped the meta a new one with spammable STAB, and there's no penguins left to save us.
