Daily patterns

Artist statement

For this project I had the task of taking a photo of a daily pattern that I have adapted during this whole quarantine period. For this photo I chose to capture the image of my friend Jacob shooting a basketball and making the image comprise of just the ball and the hoop. To edit this photo I just went into photoshop and darkened areas of the hoop and made the sky a little more bright since it was a cloudy-ish day and wasn't very bright. I really tried to focus on timing and getting the photo to not be blurry as well as using all the space correctly and trying to get only the important things in the image. (Basketball and hoop)

For the compositional techniques I focused on informal balance as well as rule of thirds. For the informal balance I focused on having most of it be centered towards the left. I also used the rule of thirds on the left side of the screen. My original idea for this image was gonna be something like or negative space image where I took maybe coffee of a food item and did that but I thought that was simple and boring so I thought of something new and something more challenging.

The story behind this is that during quarantine I adapted a new found workout/hobby where I play basketball almost everyday. I chose this because basketball is interesting and has many opportunities for photos so that's why I chose to do basketball. This relates to my life because this is something I do everyday and is something I enjoy a lot.
