Artist Statement
For this project I had the task to take a photo that incorporated 1 of the 3 primary colors. I chose to photograph blue because I have focused on red a little bit before and I don't really like to photograph yellow because it's not a very appealing color to me. The subject of this image I chose my friend tj because when I showed up to play golf with him he was already wearing blue, and mid match I asked If I could take a photo of him and he was my model for this project. The setting was the golf course near the brunswick naval air station on the 7th tee box. I took this image very naturally, I didn't use any enhancers or staged it, the only thing I really did was turn down the exposure in lightroom as well as the vibrance to really bring out the blue in his hat and shirt. For this image I tried to focus a lot on the color and making sure that the blue really popped out I also tried to focus on the texture around him because the grass wasn't very lively and to really make the blue pop, I wanted to make sure the grass wasn't distracting to the blue.
For this image I used the techniques of selective color as well as the rule of thirds. The selective color you can see all around the image, and the rule of thirds on the bottom right corner where that paths meet. For this image I knew that I wanted to take an image with Tj because I knew he had a shirt that was this blue as well as his golf bag, so I knew I had options but I ultimately took this image with him because I want to take mostly portraits for my images rather than something else.
The meaning behind this image is golf. Tj, Eli, and I were playing golf when school was transferred to online, and to play golf really took our minds off everything and was just really enjoyable to be with a friends again, 6 feet away from each other of course, but Golf just makes everything better. This relates to my life because of golf, it's such a big factor that dictates my life and influences a whole bunch which is really enjoyable. The only thing I would change about this image is the light bubbles that are around his left shoulder.
