Abstract

Artist Statement

For this project we had the task to take an image that represents abstraction. For my image I took a photo of a viewfinder at land end. I took this photo by using a macro lense around my phone, and then stand far enough away where you could tell what I was taking a picture of but also where it leaves you wondering what it might be. How I edited this was turned down exposure and brightness to bring out the viewfinder itself, and then put a vignette around the corners to just center the image. When taking this image I really focused on incorporating texture with the blurriness as well as, space used around the viewfinder.

The compositional techniques I used in this image are soft focus and rule of thirds. For the soft focus you can see around the whole image creating the blurred effect, and the rule of thirds in the left top and bottom section of the image. My project didn't really have a beginning. I don't really know how to take abstract photos or what they even look like but i immediately thought of a macro image. I didn't really know what macro image I was going to take but I put on my macro lens that I have for my phone and started to go take pictures and I thought, maybe a really blurred picture would count sense macro is used for up close and taking a distanced photo with a macro lens would create the blurred effect. After I thought of that i started to take farther away photos with the macro lens and decided to use this photo.

The story behind this image is that I was out one day taking photos and I wanted to go for a drive so my mental health does not make me go crazy sitting inside all day, so I took a drive down to bailey island and took photos there and this image was a photo of the viewfinder on the rocks looking out to the ocean. This project relates to my life because this image helped me keep my sanity while staying indoors. The only thing I would change about this image is to make it more creative and not as boring as it might seem.
