Artist Statement
For this assignment we had to focus on a minimalistic photo. I chose to take a photo of the ocean as well as the rocks on the side of this image. For the subject I tried to focus on the rocks but also use the space on the left as a distraction. I took this image at wolfes neck farm by the bridge looking down at the water. What I did to this image is I turned the exposure down and the brightness as well, changed the color on it and turned up the detailing to make everything super crisp. What I tried to focus on for this image was the texture in the rocks as well as the space used to create just a little bit of tension.
For the compositional techniques, I used angle down as well as informal balance. When I took this photo I was looking down at the water creating the angle down look. for the informal balance the rocks on the right heavily weigh the image to make it informal. For my project I really didn't have a specific idea of what I wanted to do but i was out driving one day and needed a photo so I went to the ocean because, the ocean is cool, and started to take photos. I really liked how this came out and met the credentials of minimalism so I edited it and here we are.
For the meaning behind this image I think it should be about waiting. i think it represents many people rocky hardships and eventually have a smooth outcome or something like that. This relates to my life because I love the ocean and another photo of the ocean is really cool and inspiring for me and love the way this image came out. If I were to change anything about this image it would be the overall color, I don't know exactly how I would change the color but that's what I would change.
