The Principles and Practice of Engineering exam is the examination required for one to become a Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States. This page contains resources for CDOT Engineers-in-Training to assist with preparing for and passing the PE exam.
The PE Exam is created and scored by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), a national non-profit organization composed of engineering and surveying licensing boards representing all states and U.S. territories. The Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam tests for a minimum level of competency in a particular engineering discipline.

There are various resources available to help you prepare for the PE Civil Exam. Use the dropdowns below to compare the resources CDOT Engineers have used to prepare for their PE Exam.

The Breadth review sessions cover all NCEES recommended topics for all five testing areas in the morning session.

This practice exam contains 80 questions and solutions to familiarize you with the PE Civil: Transportation exam format and content for computer-based testing.
Questions 1–40 represent the breadth portion of the exam and are the same in all five PE Civil practice exams.
Questions 41–80 represent the depth portion of the exam and are specific to the PE Civil discipline chosen so are different in each PE Civil practice exam.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for reimbursement through Procedural Directive 1262.1, you must:
Be a current full-time equivalent CDOT employee or permanent part-time CDOT employee.
Have at least one year of State service.
Not be under disciplinary action and must be in good standing (i.e., have no corrective or disciplinary actions in the past 12 months).
Have a most recent performance evaluation with an overall rating of 2 (successful) or higher, for the period covered by the reimbursement (including your most recent performance evaluation).
Required Documentation
To receive reimbursement for a PE Exam prep course, you must submit the following once you’ve completed the course:
Proof of payment (itemized receipt or invoice)
Receipts for any required materials (books, etc.)
Proof that the prep course was completed (certificate of completion or confirmation email)
