OPI has put together a list of the basics of innovation and improvement. We have gone through many of the offerings on LinkedIn and have identified the best videos to watch so you can concentrate your time on what matters most. However, feel free to watch more on what interests you, and you don’t have to watch them in order! 

Lean Foundations - Steven Brown

Learn about lean: this is a good foundational course that highlights some of the main points that we would like you to know. Start with these courses to get your started but there is plenty more to learn if you are interested.

Root Cause Analysis: Getting to the Root of Business Problems - Sam Yankelevitch

In this course, Sam Yankelevitch addresses root cause analysis and how you can make it work for your business. This is a good course to learn the basics of root cause analysis and how to get started with some tools. We recommend starting with these videos but the course also provides more information and tip for RCA to work for you.

Hoshin Planning - Gemba Academy

Hoshin is a strategic planning process. This course walks you through the seven steps of hoshin planning, from laying your foundation to solving problems to encouraging reflection and organizational learning.This course consists of 11 videos and is about 1 hour long. Watch them at your own pace and when it’s convenient for you as you can start and stop at any point. 

Culture of Kaizen - Gemba Academy

The word kaizen means to change for the better. This course explores the human side of lean in great detail. We recommend the first video which provides an overview of Kaizen. If it’s something that you are interested in, the course has some good content and watch as much as you want of this 1.5hr long course. Go at your own pace as it doesn’t have to be in order or all at once.

What is Change Management - Claudine Peet

Teams won’t buy into a change unless they understand why it’s necessary. And without buy-in from stakeholders, changes don’t last. This course offers a fast-paced introduction to change management that is only 11 min.

Leading In Government - Adelle Dantzler

Many people feel that leading in government is a puzzle. While it certainly has its challenges, serving the public can help you make a lasting, positive impact in the community you serve. In this course, Adelle Dantzler helps to equip you with the critical knowledge and skills needed to excel in a government leadership role. Throughout the course, Adelle shares real-life examples that help to shine a spotlight on how these leadership tactics actually work in the field. Here are some videos worth watching, but take advantage of the additional information that Adelle has to offer in this course.

Business Acumen for Project Managers - Daniel Stanton

To excel in the role as project manager, you must understand how business really works, and how to align your project with the larger purpose of your organization. In this course, learn core strategic and business management skills that can help to bolster your business acumen. Instructor Daniel Stanton begins the course by reviewing the key skills highlighted in the Project Management Institute (PMI) Talent Triangle, and explaining how strategy and business management fit into your professional development. We would like you to focus on this course regarding process improvement methods, but feel free to take advantage of this course and review as much as you would like.
