Not managing one’s diet well, while it may seem like a small issue or nothing of significance, may actually progress into a significant and dangerous problem later in life. Ailments like diabetes are caused by being unable to manage one’s diet well, resulting in excessive intake of some nutrients like sugar and salt. As everything must be taken in moderation, these cause health problems that we seek to offer protection against.
Thus, as the Nutritionists, we decided to design and create a mobile application with Python, capable of scanning and recognising uniquely Singaporean food items to fit our context, and register all this data locally for the user to track and check easily. This allows them to understand their own dietary habits through the use of data and graphs, making information clearer and giving them the ability to take action. The app also has a preferences page for the user to log all their dietary requirements, so it can act as a one-stop page for others to learn and know what they can and cannot eat. In addition, the graphs and preferences help doctors know their food intake recently, as it may sometimes contribute to the diagnoses that they make.
