Pneumonia Detector

by YBN

What is it?

We at YBN are interested in using AI for image recognition to identify diseases and potential health risks from chest X-rays. Our goal is to create an AI model that can assist the healthcare industry in preventing diseases that are not easily detectable from worsening through machine learning.

Through our research, we have found that pneumonia is a common disease that can affect anyone. However, pneumonia can be challenging to diagnose accurately, and it may not be as easily curable as common flu or viral infections. This poses a significant problem since patients may go home without knowing they have pneumonia, which can result in severe consequences as time passes.

To address this issue, we have formulated the following problem statement: How can we assist the healthcare industry in preventing diseases that are difficult to detect from worsening using machine learning? Thus, our project aims to detect pneumonia from chest X-ray images using deep learning. We have implemented the project using Python and the PyTorch deep learning library, divided into several components, each contained in a separate Python script.

Our solution offers a second opinion to users who need it, allowing them to determine whether they need to seek treatment. Doctors can also use our solution as a reference, leading to more accurate diagnoses. This not only assists doctors in performing their job but also helps patients to receive the necessary treatment before their pneumonia develops further and becomes more serious.
