Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in all world regions. Over the past five decades, there has been a 50-fold increase in the global incidence of dengue, with an estimated 100 - 400 million infections each year from about 141 countries. Of these, around 500,000 cases develop into severe dengue. Without medical care, the fatality rate of severe dengue is 20-50%. In contrast, the fatality rate of severe dengue is only 2.5% with medical care.
Hence, our team decided to build Damegue, a website that helps you detect dengue. We hope that, through this website, users will be able to detect dengue and seek medical care early, reducing the mortality rate of dengue tremendously.
Damegue is a website that allows users to check themselves for dengue. By getting users to fill in a survey consisting of “Yes” and “No” questions about their dengue symptoms and taking into account the proximity between the user and nearby dengue clusters, Damegue can generate a percentage chance of the user having dengue based on pre-set criteria with each criterion having a weightage based on how important the criterion is in detecting dengue. After generating the percentage, Damegue will then advise how urgent it is for the user to seek medical assistance based on the percentage and provide information on nearby dengue clusters if any.
