In Singapore, many people are being caught out by scams. In 2021 alone, at least $663 million was lost to scams. As technology plays a bigger role in our lives, the chances of us falling for scams also becomes even greater. This issue is particularly prevalent in the elderly community in Singapore.
As such, our program aims to help recognise scams through the screening of SMS messages. Our program uses a mixture of machine learning and a blacklisting database to screen through the message to detect scams. We also packaged our program into an API to allow for an easier implementation into an application. With our program, we hope to create an impact on the greater tech environment by playing our part to help reduce scams.
