Here are some basic troubleshooting steps for your VIZIO SmartCast Home Theater Display or HDTV.
Step 1: Verify the SmartCast Home Theater Display or SmartCast HDTV are connected to the same network
- If the two devices are not on the same network the application or SmartCast Remote App will be unable to see the device to which you are wanting to send the information.
Step 2: Power Cycle your SmartCast Home Theater Display or SmartCast HDTV
To power cycle your Home Theater Display or TV:
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the Home Theater Display/HDTV or the outlet, whichever is easier to unplug. If you are unsure of which cable is the Home Theater Display/HDTV power cord, trace the cords connected to the outlet/power strip/surge protector until you find the one connected to the Home Theater Display/HDTV and unplug it.
- Once the device is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 15 to 30 seconds. On the VIZIO SmartCast Home Theater Displays and VIZIO SmartCast HDTVs the power button is the top button on the back, bottom-left side of the TV.
- After holding down the device's power button for 15 to 30 seconds, plug the power cable back into the device or outlet, whichever was disconnected, and power the device on.
Step 3: If you are still having problems casting try using a known trusted application.
- Open up an application such as YouTube, Netflix, or Vudu. These applications are verified as working on our SmartCast devices. Once the application is open, click on the casting icon and it should open on the Home Theater Display or the HDTV.
- If the application does not see your SmartCast Home Theater Display or HDTV try a different device that is capable of casting such as a Smart Phone, VIZIO SmartCast Tablet, or other tablet. If a second device works then the issue may be with the first device you were testing. If the first device you were testing is a VIZIO Tablet Remote and a 2nd device is working please contact the VIZIO customer service team at 844-254-8088 Mon. thru Fri. from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m CST or Sat. & Sun. from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. CST for further assistance.
Step 4: If the application does not Cast to the TV try Power Cycling your router
To power cycle your router:
- Unplug the router's power cord from the outlet or the back of the router, whichever is easier to unplug, and then remove any battery backup the router may have. If you are unsure of which cable is the power cord, trace the cords connected to the outlet/power strip/surge protector until you find the one connected to the router and unplug it.
- Once the power cord is disconnected remove any battery backup the router may have. Not all routers have a battery backup.
- Once the router is unplugged from the power and any battery backup is removed (if applicable) slow count to 10 then replace any battery backup (if applicable) and plug the power cord back into the router or outlet, whichever was disconnected.
