Following are the general comments that were given:
We should do programing assignments from the book
I think the labs need to be more geared toward the homework assignments like in the lab before the gridmatch assignment was due. The command line stuff in class is very confusing and not necessary.
"I've had problems viewing the videos of lectures. They don't seem to load most of the time and it gives an error when I try to download them. Also, the audio has not been there in some of them. I feel like it would be better if they were also made available on the course website or itunes, instead of echo 360, because it's been very glitchy.
Very little is explained about the projects. I did absolutely everything I could for the last project and was very close to giving up. Thankfully I finally got some much needed help from a tutor to get through the part I was stuck on.
The amount of class time is very little compared to the amount of work and knowledge needed to complete the projects. For example, it was vital to know 2d arrays to work on the project, yet we only started covering them in class this week. There doesn't seem to be enough class time to teach all the new concepts. "
I realize we have limited time to discuss C/C++ in class, but keep in mind that a good majority of the class (including myself) has no prior experience with these languages and the transition from Java to C will obviously be a little challenging. Some are also put at a disadvantage because they have only learned how to program this past year.
The book was not as helpful for the Programs we had to create. The book was more like, "This is what this word mean" while the program was "Use this word and switch it up so it do something else". It was not as detailed as the programs. I feel we need more time for some of the main concepts that will be used in the programs. Maybe do little quizzes more to see who gets the concepts also, I feel we should have started meeting on Fridays at the beginning of the semester.
I think the course is going well.
C/C++ is moving very fast, and is pretty hard to keep up with. I have been reading information from various resources, but I think if more examples were done in class to demonstrate how to write code in C/C++ I would feel more comfortable with writing in this unfamiliar language.
I think most of the class had problem understanding what constructors are.
