Level 1 Waltz. EASY. Workshop Number: WZ135
Waltz exercise No. 5
Prerequisite: Exercise No. 4: First Time Waltz (EZ version)
LEARNING THE DANCE
This dance includes a FORWARD POINT; BACK and POINT.
The Man steps forward (while Woman steps back),
then he points toe forward while she points back.
The POINT is an action and does not take weight.
There is only one weight change per measure--
so STEP, HOLD, HOLD; STEP, HOLD, HOLD.
There is also a ROCK THRU, RECOVER, FACE.
Both dancers use inside foot to rock thru the couple
toward line of dance. Then both recover with weight
back onto the free foot. Then use the free inside foot
to face one another.
For the LACE ACROSS, while both are facing Line of Dance, the lady crosses in front of the man in 3 steps as both change sides.
The teach demo has a Lace Across then a Lace back across. The dance "Four Walls" interrupts those two measures with a Forward Waltz.
For the DIP, remember that cues are to the Man. The Man dips back while the lady leans in.
The teach demo shows both a one-measure and a two-measure DIP and RECOVER. The "Four Walls" dance only uses the one-measure.
The LEFT TURNING BOX is borrowed from Phase 2 Waltz. A regular BOX is two measures [FWD, SD, CLS; BK, SD, CLS]. A LEFT TURNING BOX is 4 measures, but the FORWARD steps and the BACK steps are LEFT turning 1/4; so that is looking at all four walls of the room one at a time while rotating to the left (Man's left). FWD TRNG, SD, CLS; BK TRNG, SD, CLS; FWD TRNG, SD, CLS; BK TRNG, SD, CLS. To keep it easy, just think: TURN, SIDE, CLOSE; TURN, SIDE, CLOSE; TURN, SIDE, CLOSE; TURN, SIDE, CLOSE,
