Easy Tango for Beginners
TG 201 General Rule
Round Dancing GENERAL RULE:
Leader (man) on the inside of the circle, follower (lady) on the outside.
Both start on outer foot (the free foot when in Open Position).
Cues are to Leader. Follower performs opposite footwork.
Shift weight with each step unless the cue is for an "action" step rather than a placement step.
Reminder: DRAW is an Action and therefore takes no weight.
TG 205 Technique and Tango Characteristics
FRAME--Closed Position
HOLD: When in closed position, the hold is a close one.
ARMS: Man's right wrist should be placed on the woman's left shoulder blade,
the fingers and thumb together and pointing down her back toward the floor.
Her left arm wraps around his right arm and the ridge of her hand presses
against the lower side of his upper arm.
STANCE: Bodies are offset to the left so that left legs can swing freely past the partner.
HEAD: Both look to the left.
EXAMPLE
In this short video clip, observe that the lady looks forward when progressing down line of
dance in Semi Closed Position, but otherwise, she looks to the left; and palm of her hand
is parallel to the floor.
