This page is aimed at first day Round Dancers familiar with Square Dance.
RD 201 Square Dancer Advantage ------------------
Square Dancers already have a head-start for learning Rounds. Round Dancing can be viewed as Square Dancing with a Ballroom attitude.
- Square Dancers are accustomed to listening for a cue a measure of music in advance of performing the figure.
- A square PROMENADE moves counter-clockwise, so Line of Dance is same as in Rounds.
- Some Square calls are used in Rounds, such as U-Turn or California Twirl. Others might just have different names. Two dancers performing CLOVER LEAF is the same as the Round Cue CIRCLE AWAY AND TOGETHER. So, in many cases, it is just a matter of learning a different name for a familiar move.
RD 202 Square Dance Calls as Intro to Rounds -----------------
The square dancers are in couples for a first-time try using Square calls in a Rounds setting of couples-only in a large circle.
Observe that as a Squared Dancer, you already can perform this dance.
