We started in September with a simple figure of WALK TWO TANGO DRAW, and by mid-November had completed the Ph.3 list and jumped into a few Ph.4 steps; and also explored some Mixed Rhythms-- reaching a level where video examples are not available because the average dance group does not progress past "Tango Mannita."
Even if you do not view most of this page, of special interest is the Phase 5 "Tango Moo"
far below, where you can see a lot of lady leg-work.
TO GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE AND SHOW YOUR HIGH LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT:
Our dancers know several more figures than the free-style students in this video clip.
It looks like they spent most of the semester learning to hold an impeccable frame.

Round Dance Tango is considered difficult because the rhythm is not constant. It is not always Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick, Slow. There are a lot of sudden adjustments needed for ROCKS and SERPIENTES, and there are also frequent changes of direction and re-positioning in partner collaboration; so it is an achievement just to get through the introductory dances. Our dancers are at a level where many of the figures can be interpolated into occasions where they might be attending a free-style dance.
WHERE YOU STAND. You are at the Phase 3 + 2 Level (where the "plus" figures are borrowed from higher levels).
PHASE 3 SAMPLE
You should be able to dance this entire selection-- except for the figure REVERSE TURN -
OPEN FINISH CHECKING, that by chance never occurred in any of our class choreography.
Toledo Tango III Ph.3
PHASE 3 + 1 SAMPLE
Adding the "+ 1," a fairly simple CURVING WALK 2, you should also be able to
perform this entire dance. Notice the 3 SWIVELS.

PHASE 4 SAMPLE
Now things get a bit more complicated; but you should be able to figure out what is going on,
even though there are cues that you have never encountered.
Don't Cry for Me, Argentina
PHASE 5 SAMPLE
Phase 5 allows for a variety of DEVELOPES and GANCHOS.
Tango Moo Phase 5 mixed Tango
PHASE 6 SAMPLE
With the Phase 4, -5 and -6 list of cues, most of the elements of this dance would be
unfamiliar and far beyond what was covered in class. But you can see that if you
break it down the steps are not impossible. They are merely unknown at your level.
