HISTORY: The quickstep developed ca. 1925 from the marching one step, and a fast foxtrot. By 1927, the light, airy gliding movement and the frequent chasses had been established.

QS 101 Intro to QS
Prerequisite (Phase I)
Entry level for QS is Phase III, so some basics from Round Dance Phase I are included here.
- Round Dancing GENERAL RULE:
Leader (man) on the inside of the circle, follower (lady) on the outside.
Both start on outer foot (the free foot when in Open Position).
Cues are to Leader. Follower performs opposite footwork.
Shift weight with each step unless the cue is for an "action" step rather than a placement step.
QS 102 Timing
Forward and back steps are usually slow.
Closing or locking steps are usually quick.
QS 107 Exhibition
Quickstep starts at Phase 3; so there are no lower level examples.
