LEARNING THE DANCE
TIMING
In notation, measures of music are separated by a semi-colon. ;
A measure of music has 4 beats ; 1, 2, 3, 4;
Cha has a syncopated beat, so the count is ; 1, 2, 3/and, 4;
Example: ;ROCK, RECOVER, CHA-CHA, CHA;
Part 1. Learning the Basics
Part 2. This dance includes CUCARACHAS.
Definition: Rock Side, Recover, Close.
Part 3. Practice the dance with the CUCARACHAS.
Part 4. This dance includes NEW YORKERS.
Definition: STEP THRU TURNING OUT, RECOVER, SIDE CLOSE
Part 5. Practice the dance with the NEW YORKERS.
Part 6. This dance includes SHOULDER TO SHOULDER.

Do not memorize the dance. Learn the names of the steps and listen for the cue.
The cue is announced one measure of music before the step is to be performed.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING MUSIC
As you progress in Round Dancing, you may find it is easier to physically interpret the attitude of the song, and also to maintain the beat if you are familiar with the tune.
