Tuesday, February 12th, 1935

Another morning dawns. Toph Midnight has an uneasy feeling, a pain in his chest. Worse than ever. And it won't go away. He goes to find his sister, Clarise, but she is gone already. Today might be the day. The pain gets worse as he heads down the stairs. He is greeted by Van Pelt, Marcus and Specter. A knock at the door draws his attention. A carrier has a message from the still, and his other brother and sister.

He grabs the morning paper, and sees another big headline.

GANG WAR STILL ON-GOING, DESPITE POLICE EFFORTS

The article reads that even with military and police patrolling, shootings have continued, and arson is on he rise, so much that the fire brigades have orders to save what they can, but to let any flaming structure burn out. The mayor has called for the governer to send support, and more law enforcement as well as Texas Rangers have been called in to sto the violence. Full blockades have been initiated at all roads leading in and out of town to prevent any side from bringing in reenforcements, and patrols have been sent to make sure water craft cannot be used for this same purpose.

This could make it difficult to leave town.

Well, as Toph starts to sit down, the pain in his chest peaks. Both dogs start to growl, and there is another knock at the door. This time, a thin man in a top hat and a luxurious black suit greet Toph.

Frederick, the Crossroads Demon has come to the door.

He asks to have a conversation outside the house with Toph, who agrees.

He tells Toph, that today is the day. That by sunset on this day, Toph's soul will be taken to hell. Van Pelt tries to intervine, but fails. After the grim announcement, Toph is about to head inside. Marcus steps out, and wants to talk to Frederick. The demon complies, and they start to head to a nearby café. The rest of the group follows.

Marcus and Frederick have a heated talk about modern religion, and Toph works up the nerve to pick a fight. He swings, and then uses his demonic superpowers to try to hurt Frederick, but it backfires. The Dogs that he summons attack marcus instead. Seeing that a direct assault will fail. Toph begins to play When The Saints Go Marching In. Specter takes out the dogs, then gets rid of the only non group human in the bar, the a waiter hiding.

Marcus looks at the demon, moves to join Toph, and holds his cross high, reciting the Lord's Prayer. Frederick is stunned by the combination, and leaves.

Toph realizes that he can't force the demon to just not show. But he can go out on his own terms.

He gets some dynamite from greasy, straps it to his chest, and heads to Storyville. He goes up to the mansion of Chrissy the Knife, and with the help of Specter, blows himself and everyone in that place to Hell.

Specter tells the house the tragic news, breaking it as gently as he can to Clarise. She faints, and when she wakes, burys herself in a few bottles of moonshine. Van Pelt tries to "comfort" the woman, but is dog blocked by Azazel.

Wednesday, February 13th, 1935

The first breath is a shock, its the memory of dying that stays in his mind. He shoves the charred beam off his chest, and roars at the silence of the ruins of Storyville. As he looks around, seeing human remains, the charred remenants of hundreds of whore houses, he thinks that this might be hell, until he sees a bird. In regular vision. With his own eyes. He can see again. And he feels a bit wooosy.....

Thursday, February 14th, 1935

Toph wakes in chest deep swamp water, a gator pasing him by to take a bite of the fresh corpse next to him. Twenty half eaten corpses are all around him. An empty car sits on the shore, and he has no idea why.

He heads back to town, following the smoke plumes, and is greeted like a returning hero by the group.
