To kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee
An unusual and amazing thing happened on 19th Feb 2020. I was going through brief reviews of some books as I wanted to buy one. Out of a list of about 20 books on some web page, my eyes did not budge from 'To kill a mockingbird' and I ordered it at Amazon. After few hrs, I searched google to read about the Author. To my shocking surprise, I found that the Soul of Harper Lee had departed on 19th Feb in 2016 (Exactly on the same date). I had goosebumps and I was perplexed for quite some days as why I stumbled on this book on 19th Feb. I couldn't read it for some time.
But what a brilliant book. A tale of hypocrisy and injustice (and probably justice of uncanny power.)
Some of my takes (Quotes):
Before I can live with other folks, I have got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by a majority rule is a person's conscience.
It's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows how poor that person is.
Folks don't like to have somebody knowing more than they do. When they don't want to learn there's nothing you can do but keep your mouth shut or talk their language.
A mob's always made of people, no matter what. (though you may know some folks).
And one more
5. Shoot all the bluejays* you want, if you can't hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.
*(Blue jay bird is a symbol of communication, intelligence and curiosity. It means that blue jay people are very intelligent and determined.)
It also provided an interesting vocab.
'Champertous connivance' (probably relevant today also).
