Back to Beyond Simple Stories
It landed upon earth. With alien sensors it surveyed its surroundings. For a moment it paused, as if detecting something on the side of the mountain. With a disappointed hiss it turned its attention to the forest in the foothills. Scanning slowly it absorbed as much information as it possibly could. Large protruding tentacles from its midsection dug into the ground and retracted samples of soil. With obvious disappointment it gave a shrilled cry and took flight, quickly disappearing into the starry sky. Let every man be thankful he was not there. Let every man be very thankful.
