Jerry F. Crews is the pseudonym used by author Jerry W. Crews. This intensely private person uses the pseudonym to maintain his anonymity. From his humble beginnings in the Carolinas, Crews has learned firsthand the struggles of the white southern urbanite. As he so elegantly explains, “Being from North Carolina, I can’t really, truly understand the south, as if, say I had been born in South Carolina.”
Crews’ memory of his childhood and adolescence has been clouded by his chronic abuse of such substances as alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, opium, morphine, codeine, quazepam, paregoric, methamphetamine, lithium, amphetamine, dextromethorphan, imipramine, glutethimide, lysergic acid diethylamide, amoxapine, barbiturates, dihydrocodeine, oxymorphone, ibuprofen, aspirin, toads, mushrooms, and the occasional cigarette. Crews says of his youthful experiences, “I seem to remember a man and a woman hanging around our house. People tell me I have a sister, but I haven’t taken the time to find out.”
Crews and his adoring wife have one son, who is presently serving a life-without-parole sentence at the state penitentiary for the shooting of an ATM machine in a brazen robbery attempt. Crews has two sons by Anita in Amsterdam, one son and one daughter by Helga in Stockholm, three daughters and one son by Molly in Helsinki, five sons by Madge in Johannesburg, one son and one daughter by Kristen in Berlin, and two daughters by Vosha in Moscow. His paternity is always at the forefront of his thoughts. “Most of the kids I’ve never seen. I’ve tried hard to sire children in countries that have socialized medicine and state welfare. That way I know the kids are taken care of, and of course, it reduces the amount of child support I’d have to pay.”
This future Pulitzer Prize winning author has been greatly influenced by the classic literature of the past. “I don’t read. You can make a whole lot more money by writing than you can by reading. When I finally get old and retire, I hope to be able to sit down and read what I’ve written.”
Indeed, writing is what he does. From the very first story in this book until the very last page are perfect examples of such writing. These stories have firmly established Jerry F. Crews as one of the writers of the present day. We can only hope and eagerly anticipate that this giant among giants will once again grace us with his literary prowess.
