This very picturesque castle is located along the Tyrrhenian waters. It can be visited inside, where one can literally feel like stepping back in time.

It covers an area of 400 ha, of which 10 ha can be visited, encompassing a total of 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. The necropolis of Banditaccia is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area and constitutes the most important Etruscan burial ground and one of the greatest archaeological complexes of the classical world. The town also offers a very charming medieval backdrop for a nice stroll or a quiet outdoor lunch in an ancient square.

One gate, the Porta Fiorentina opens toward Florence to the north, and the other, the Porta Romana, faces Rome to the south. The main street within the walls connects the two gates in a roughly straight line.
