The five hamlets of the Cinque Terre are located on the west coast of the Riviera and they represent a universe apart on the Italian coastal panorama. The villages of Monterosso,Vernazza,Corniglia,Manarola and Riomaggiore, were built by peasant farmers who transformed the steep cliffs into fertile terraces to grow excellent agricultural produces (oil, wine, lemons). The terreaces are based on dry stone walls that if aligned would exceed the length of the Great Wall of China. The delicate balance between natural elements and human toil generated a unique landscape, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Pick up in the morning from the port right at your ship's pier, traveling north to Riomaggiore.
From here your visit will continue independently. Please let us know if you wish to have an assistant available all day to be with you.
You have the choice to continue the tour by ferry boat or by train (depending on weather and sea conditions). NOTE: Ferry boat service available from end of March to beginning of November.
In Riomaggiore you can take the ferry boat to visit Le Cinque Terre (the five villages). This is the guggested and more scenic itinerary, but in case of bad weather the same can be done by train (easy few minutes rides between each village). The traditional footpath (Via dell'Amore) has been closed due to landslide.
Once in Manarola you can take the boat again and pass in front of Corniglia, a farming village set higher than the others ( the ferry boat can’t stop here), to reach Vernazza with its old center snaking along the cliff top.
Lastly Monterosso: the best equipped village for tourists in the whole Cinque Terre with its typical little port. All the restaurants provide delectable typical dishes of the Ligurian coast like pesto, focaccia bread and salted anchovies. You can also taste the product par excellence of Cinque Terre: the famous “Sciacchetrà” a sweet raisin wine……enjoy!!!
You will meet your driver back at Riomaggiore before returning to your ship. To come back you can use the ferry again (if you have chosen a day ticket) or you can return by train for a quicker return. The train is very inexpensive and can get you back in 16 to 20 minutes (departures approximately every 20 min). You will then return back to Livorno (1.5 hour to 2 drive).
Itinerary details are indicative and may need to be changed by the driver in case of heavy traffic or any other unforeseen situation.

Meet your driver at your ship's pier in Villefranche (8:00 am)
Panoramic Drive and Nice: Drive to Nice along the coast road to see the famous promenade des Anglais, the beautiful place Massena, and you will discover the old town where you will have a walking tour to see the colorful flower and farmer market, and to see where the locals live and much more... The only way to get to know the real Nice is by strolling through the ocher colored
streets listening to the "Niçois" speaking their own language (Nissart) and by tasting their savory cooking.
Saint Paul de Vence: Which has truly been the Jewell of the Provence since the 11th century, wander through picturesque arrows streets which are lined with more than 40 art galleries, souvenirs shops as well, a brilliant view of the Alps, Marc Chagall is grave... and la Colombe d’or the meeting point for artists from all over the world.
Eze: Your jaw will drop at the gorgeous view of the Mediterranean from Eze, a charming hilltop town on the Cote d’Azur. It's beautiful cobblestone streets and hot-pink bougainvillea are a far cry from the glamour of Cannes or St-Tropez—and for travellers who could care less about celebrities and mega yachts, that’s quite appealing. Shoppers will delight in the many local perfumeries and art galleries. You are welcome to visit the exotic botanic garden, situated in the village, where an impressive
collection of cactus, plants and rare vegetation surrounds the remains of an ancient chateau. At an altitude of 400 m, the summit of the cliff over-looks the sea. It's fantastic!
Monaco, Monte-Carlo: We will finish the day with the luxury of Monaco, Monte-Carlo: Nowhere exudes luxury quite like Monaco does, with no other place similar in Europe. Discover the second smallest country in the world, the (old town, with a walking tour), the Prince Palace, the cathedral (neo Romanesque style) the incredible oceanographic museum. Drive to Monte-Carlo along the
legendary Formula 1 circuit to the casino square and the marvelous Hotel de Paris.
Wine Tasting and Lunch VARIATION: if the whole group agrees we can do a wine tasting and have a lunch in St Paul de Vence but will have to skip the visit to Monaco:
The tour will be Nice, St Paul de Vence with a lunch in the village, a wine tasting stop at one of the following locations:
- at the a Vineyard in St Jeannet (the Vignoble des Hautes Collines de la Cote d'Azur, see video here)
- or at a 14th century wine cellar inside the medieval village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence (the Cave de Saint-Paul, see pictures here, see offers here)
We will then continue to Eze village. Important note: in order to guarantee having enough time to visit Eze, we suggest doing the wine tasting at the wine cellar in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Coordinate with driver to make sure that timing is paced according to your preferences.
The wine tasting costs about 10€ per person at the Winery in St Jeannet and €20 pp at the wine cellar in St Paul de Vence). It will be necessary to reserve the wine tasting in advance.
The lunch can be at le Tilleul in St Paul, www.restaurant-letilleul.com/ where we will reserve a reserve a table on the terrace of le Tilleuil.
Back to Villefranche along the panoramic lower Corniche.
