Three species of hedgehog mushroom still about in Scottish woods

Post date: Nov 26, 2014 10:25:15 PM

At this time of year you can still encounter creamy-coloured fungal fruit bodies in our woods. Closer inspection will show that instead of gills beneath the caps, these fruit bodies have long teeth or spines which hang down perpendicular to the ground. It is these features that give these fungi their common name of the Hedgehog mushrooms. Find out more in their Fungus of the Month profile.

Please let us know you've found it or submit the record to your local fungus group. Also, remember that the ever growing list of 'Fungus of the Month' profiles is available here, ordered alphabetically or by its highlight month.
