Gyromitra ancilis - May's fungus of the month

Post date: May 8, 2011 8:04:00 PM

This month's fungus of the month, Gyromitra ancilis, is from a different group of fungi to those featured in previous months - it's from the cup fungi. It is a large red-brown wrinkly species that grow on dead conifer wood. Normally recorded in April and May, this is definitely one to look out for at a time of year when there are less other fungi fruiting. Find out more on the species profile page. As usual, please remember to submit your records here so we can gain a better understanding of its Scottish distribution.
