Neville Kilkenny was trained as a mycologist by Professor Roy Watling at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, through the BTCV ‘Natural Talent’ apprenticeship scheme. Originally interested in fungi from an early age for culinary use, he is keen to share his interest with others and to promote the sustainable collection of fungi as food and for crafts. Working now as a freelance consultant field mycologist, interested in conservation and understanding the diversity and ecological needs of fungi, Neville is a Research Associate of The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, a member of the British Mycological Society, The Scottish Fungus Conservation Group, and the Fungus Group of South-East Scotland.

Neville runs Shepherd's Cottage Fungi.
