David C. Morgan of West Chester David C. Morgan of West Chester, formerly of Old Forge, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Born on January 13, 1923 in Old Forge, he was the son of the late David and Cassie Cooke Morgan. He was a 1942 graduate of Old Forge High School and Millersville State Teachers College in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. He went on to obtain his masters degree in education from Temple University in 1957. Prior to college, Dave served during WWII from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S.A.F. During this time he was a ground crew mechanic stationed in various bases throughout the United States. Dave's career as an educator spanned 35 years in the West Chester area. He started as a teacher at Paoli Pike, and then served as Fern Hill's first principal before finally retiring from Exton in 1985. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he was involved in many roles including greeter, usher, Sunday school superintendent, church council member and volunteer aide to the church office. For many years he enjoyed calling bingo at the Pocopson Home for the shut-ins and was a loyal Salvation Army volunteer manning a kettle every Christmas or helping deliver food to the food pantry. His memberships included Millersville Black & Gold Club, West Chester Elks Club, West Chester Senior Center, Welsh Society, lifetime member of NEA, PA Association School Retirees and AARP. Surviving are his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Larue N. Morgan of West Chester, daughters, Cheryl L. Raezer of Downingtown and Linda C. Trembath (husband Rich) of Plymouth Meeting, along with sons, David J. Morgan (wife Laurie) of Mountain Top and Mark S. Morgan (wife Maureen) of West Collingswood, N.J. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Joshua D. and Sean D. Morgan, Morgan L. and Drew M. Raezer, Taylor S. and Conor J. Morgan, Rylynn B. and Maycee L. Trembath. The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New St., West Chester, PA 19382 A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the church. Interment will be private at Green Mount Cemetery, West Goshen Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or the West Chester Area Senior Center, 350 E. Union St., West Chester, PA 19382.
