JENNY CHEN, piano

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1994, Jenny started piano lessons at the age of six. In 2004, she entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with Eleanor Sokoloff and Gary Graffman. At Curtis, Jenny was selected for having given the most outstanding student performances of the year 2012; one of the highest artistic honors Curtis can bestow upon a student. As the first prize winner of the Albert Greenfield competition at age thirteen, Ms. Chen made her debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra; her other solo appearances with orchestra include performances with the National Repertory Orchestra, the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic, and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Chen has appeared as a guest artist at many prestigious music festivals, including the Piano Academy in Weimar, Germany, the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York, Bravo Vail Music Festival in Colorado, and the Graz Music Festival in Austria. In addition, she was invited to perform in the inauguration concert for the Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett in 2011. Among her many international awards, Ms. Chen received first prize at the 2011 Henk de By Incentive Prize in the Ninth International Franz Liszt Competition in the Netherlands, the Rodney and Lorna Sawatsky Rising Stars Concerto Competition, the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, the silver medal at the Fifth New York International Piano Competition and the Twelfth Eastman International Piano Competition. Ms. Chen was also a finalist in the Young Concert Artists’ International auditions and the winner of Taiwan Chi-Mei Artist Scholarship and the Taiwan Dong-Sung Culture Foundation Scholarship. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Chen received her Bachelor’s degree in May, 2013. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree at Yale University under the tutelage of Dean Robert Blocker.
