Last Updated 12/2014

Course Overview

This course was formerly called and is equivalent to COP 2701.

The goal of the course is to learn about databases and SQL and then to integrate a database into a computer program. Databases can be integrated into computer programs developed in many different languages. For this course, the PHP language is used since it is a popular and important language.

PHP is a server-side scripting language which is embedded into an HTML source document. Knowledge of basic HTML, taught in the prerequisite course, COP 1822, is important.

A primary objective of this course is to prepare you to pass Microsoft Certification Exam 98-364: Database Fundamentals.

Links on this page provide an introduction to skills measured on the exam and help you to prepare for it. As you go through the material throughout the semester, keep the certification test in mind.

You will be given the opportunity to take the actual certification exam for free in class.
