A. You must be able to take an equation and graph it!
Method 1: t-chart and lots of math!
a) make an x/y t-chart,
b) use x values of -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3
c) do math substitution for each x value to get the y value
d) convert the t-chart into cartesian coordinates
e) graph those points
Method 2: slope-intercept method
a) know y = mx +b, m=slope, b=y-intercept
b) put a dot on the y-axis at the y-intercept
c) know slope = rise/run and make consecutive dots to create the line
B. You must be able to look at a graph and write the equation.
This requires the slope-intercept knowledge.
find where the line crosses the y-axis. This becomes the y-intercept
find the rise over run between 2 points on the line. This becomes the slope.
write it as y = mx + b, replace the m with the slope and the +b with the y-intercept.
C. You must know the vocabulary from this unit.
x-axis, y-axis, origin, the 4 quadrants, slope, y-intercept, equation, x/y t-chart
