3-D shapes have many sides. Each side will have an area. Add the areas together to get the total surface area!
Cubes have all sides the same length, so all sides have the same area!
Rectangles have different sized lengths, so each side will have a different surface area...with the front and back being the same, the left and right sides the same and the top and bottom the same.
Since there are some funky shapes, there are some funky formulas...ways to get the surface area with math!
cylinders are made up of 2 circles and one rectangle (curved into the sides of the shape.
spheres are really tough, so we just need to know how to use the formula!
