Intro Question: Helping Out an Art Student
I got an e-mail from my friend on Tuesday.
"I have a list of products and the weight of material used to make them and the quantity of each. My stock material comes in specific weight spools. Is there a formula or algorithm that will find me an optimal sequence to make those products and reduce the amount of waste (unusable material from each stock material spool). What is the average amount of waste from each spool?
example from 2kg of material I can make (B,B, C, C, D) using 1.96kg of material, with 0.04 left over.
Super Advanced version - optimize and organize into 12 hr blocks."
I asked him if there was any issue with waste between; he said that 0.02 is lost between each project.
Our job is to help him optimize this work. I have yet to try the problem. He says he's got a prize for the winner (though it may take a bit to get here from Canada).

Function Notation
Let's start with the domain and range worksheet.
What does function notation have for us over y equal notation?
What does it mean for a function to have an inverse (and how can I find it)?
Graphing inverse functions
Quadratics are fun:
f(x) = x^2
g(x) = x+2
h(x) = x - 3
