PART I: Have these questions completed for class on Thursday.
1. Attached is a PDF of a bunch of problems to do. Do these problems.
2. The area of a rectangle is the length times the width. For example a rectangle with sides four inches and 5 inches would have an area of 20 square inches (notice that the unit changes from just inches to square inches--we're going from one dimension to two dimensions). Find the area of each of the following rectangles given the two sides:
a. 3 inches by 7 inches
b. 21 inches by 10.5 inches
c. 3.67 inches by 2.28 inches
d. 0.5 inches by 0.5 inches
e. 2 feet by 8 inches (hint: convert the measurements so they're the same unit)
f. 1 yard by 14 inches
3. How many square inches are there in a square foot? Be able to explain your reasoning.
4. The other day I went crazy and made a ton of cookies. Like seriously, 68 cookies. I used a pound of butter in these cookies and 3 ounces of vanilla.
a. how many ounces of butter ended in each cookie? Round to the nearest thousandth of an ounce.
b. how many ounces of vanilla ended up in each cookie? Round to the nearest ten thousandth of an ounce.
5. Compare and contrast the metric system to the Imperial system that the United States currently uses. We're going to talk about the possible benefits and problems of each in class. You will be making lists in groups and then coming together as a class.
PART II:
I went through your five minute frenzies forclass on Monday, correcting them. Our goal for Thursday is a correct completion rate of ________ . If we meet that goal the above mentioned cookies will show up on Monday. (well, maybe new ones--the old ones might not be good anymore).
