1. Attached below are a few problems to solve. Use the method of your choice. Feel free to check your answers at wolframalpha.com, but make sure you can show your work (that's how I'll know you did them on the assignment)
2. Below are a couple of work problems I've selected from the ones you turned in. Try to turn them into equations.
a. If I have been offered a job where the salary is $30,000 for the first year, and increases by $3,000 every year after that, what could I use to determine how much I would make during my 20th year?
b. A bag of potato chips costs $3.00. It weighs 6 oz. Each potato chip weighs 0.07 oz. How much does one potato chip cost?
c. A film's running time is 110 minutes. Adult admission is $10. Admission for a child is $5. How much more does an adult pay per minute than a child?
d. A biology teacher who goes to chicago to teach a three day long workshop get’s paid $30 an hour but has to pay $125 for each of the two nights in a hotel and $130 for a round trip airplane ticket. How many hours does she need to teach in order to make a profit?
e. Growing up in a big family, it’s always good to have an idea of how much it’ll cost to do family activities. So if we say that the children ticket is $5.00, and adult ticket is $7.00, the amount of children needing a ticket variable will be Y and the adults needing tickets will be X, so the equation would be . . .
f. Harry buys a saw for $15. He makes $2.75 for every tree he chops down to give to the local farmer. Harry saws down 17 trees on Monday, 12 trees on Tuesday, and 18 trees on Wednesday. How much does he make (taking into account his initial cost)?
