This is your mini data set. And when I say mini, I mean it. There's only, like 2 questions. And, like, 2 days to do it. But I will warn you...
they are going to take quite a bit of r work, using everything that you've learned, any maybe more.
So settle back, step up, and let's see what we can do!
Question One:
Find the data in your book on page 132, question 11. (In actuality, the CONTEXT is on page 132 and the DATA is on 133)
1. Create ONE graph that shows the Friday scores, and the monday scores. The following must be true:
It should be a histogram
I must be able to see all the data (which means consider ylim and xlim when making the first graph, before you add the other pieces)
The breaks should be the same for both
The breaks should be sensible for the data (both sets)
It should be labelled correctly
2. Find the difference between Friday and Monday for each person [so the first person there (42 and 36) would have a score of 6]. Create a histogram of this data.
3. What information is better showed in your first graph as opposed to your second graph? If you were trying to tell a story iwth the data, which version would you use, and why (this question should be at least a paragraph long).
Question Two:
Look at the data below on three types of flowers. These flowers have been sampled, and we want to compare the lengths of their flowers. Why? Because different hummingbirds use these different flowers for their food, and we want to see if the length of the flower is causing this, or if it might be something else.
1. Create ONE graph that shows the three flowers. The following must be true:
It should be a histogram
I must be able to see all the data
The breaks should be the same for both
The breaks should be sensible for the data (all sets)
It should be labelled correctly
As an additional piece of information, the H. bihai is a reddish greenish flower.
2. Do you think that there is a difference in flower length? Use your graph and any other information you might be able to find (for example, the mean or the standard deviation) to help you argue your case. This question should be at least a paragraph long.
FLOWERS (lengths in millimeters):
H. Bihai: 47.12 46.75 46.81 47.12 46.67 47.43 46.44 46.64 48.07 48.34 48.15 50.26 50.12 46.34 46.94 48.36
H. caribaea (red) : 41.90 42.01 41.93 43.09 41.47 41.69 39.78 40.57 39.63 42.18 40.66 37.87 39.16 37.40 38.20 38.07 38.10 37.97 38.79 38.23 38.87 37.78 38.01
