Monday: Review--what do we know HOW to do, when would we do it, and what do we still need to do?
HW:
-- a couple of quick z questions 1.126 (page 71)
-- if need be, read section 1.3 again.
-- 1.132 through 1.139 (answers are below). REMEMBER TO READ THE ITALICS BEFORE THE FIRST QUESTION.
1.132: Tonya z= 0.9688, Jermaine z= 1.3889. Jermaine did better.
1.133: Jacob z= -1.0185, Emily z= -1.5234. Jacob did better
1.134: Jose z= 1.7788 so ACT would be 31.1
1.135: Maria z= 1.5741 so SAT would be 2014
1.136: Maria z= 1.81 gives p = 0.9649, so her score is better than 96.5 percent of people (in the 96.5 percentile)
1.137: Jacob z= -0.4630 gives p = 0.3228 so his score is better than 32.28 percent of people (in the 32.3 percentile)
1.138: top 10 percent means better than 90 percent (0.900) so a z = 1.2816 and a score of 1920 on SAT
1.139: bottom 20 percent means (0.200) a z = -0.8416 turns to 1239 on SAT
-- read section 7.1, answer 7.15, 7.20, and answer: "How is a t test different than a p test? What is taken into account in a t test that is ignored in a p test?"
