George was born in early 1878, at Oystermouth and was the youngest of nine children, born to David & Harriet THOMAS, of 4, Victoria Avenue, Mumbles

Geoge married Mary Jane POWNELL on 22 May 1901 in Oldham and had two children Rose and George

Unlike his father, who was a mariner, George was employed by Mr. Bart Beer, Builder, as a bricklayer This work took him away from home and by 1901 he was living at St Georges , Hanover Square, London

After this, he moved to Manchester, where he married a Lancashire girl, Mary Jane POWNELL on 22 May 1901 in Oldham. Mary was the daughter of John Pownell, a Cab Driver

He was still in Manchester in 1911 and had two children Rose and George, when his father died in Mumbles, in late 1911

This was the reason for his enlistment into a Manchester Regiment.
