As a result of enquiries, Col. I. H. McCausland of the Royal Green Jackets, with which the KRRC is now combined, has been kind enough to supply the following information concerning the 2nd Battalion’s activities just before and after Jack died in Flanders on 30th June 1916.

This was the beginning of the terrible battle of the Somme.

In 1915 the 2nd Bn. was involved in major action at Aubers Ridge on 9th May, and at Loos on 24th September to 15th October. In 1916 the battalion was again involved at Loos and later the ‘attack on the triangle’ took place and the 2nd Battalion War records describe these days as follows.
