Died of wounds 7th October 1915, aged 23, born 1892

Died at Boulogne from wounds received in action at Vermelles 27 September 1915 while on observation duty.

'Dennis Ivor Day, the Cambridge stroke, was shot through the eye by a German sniper at Vermelles in September 1915. His parents travelled to France to take him home to St Ives, but he never regained consciousness and died on the journey, aged 23'.

Son of George Dennis Day (Solicitor & Town Clerk) and Margaret Jane (Meta) Day of ‘Rheola’ St. Ives, Huntingdonshire. Brother of George Lewis Day 1890-1972 and Gladys Marjorie Day 1894-1984

[His mother Margaret Jane (Meta) Day was the daughter of the late Lewis Davis of 'Bryn-Derwen', Ferndale, Glam, J.P. and colliery proprietor].


His brother was also a casualty of the war

Born St Ives 10-2-1892. Educated Sandroyd, co Surrey, Repton co Derby and St Johns College Cambridge.

Joined the Royal Naval Division on the outbreak of war in Aug 1914, but obtained a commission in the R.F.A 1 December 1914, subsequently being attached to the 24th Division, 106th brigade. Went to France spring 1915, returned to England in July. Went back to the front in August and died at Boulogne 7 October 1915 from wounds received in action at Vermelles 27 September 1915 while on observation duty.

Buried at St Ives. Whilst at Cambridge he studied Mathematics.
