Parents, Thomas and Eleanor (nee Jenkins) of Coltshill House, Norton,

Tom was one of six children -three boys & three girls.

His brothers Philip and William survived the conflict.

His three sisters were Charlotte Ann, Beatrice and Grace.

Elder sister Charlotte Annie.

She married postman Daniel James TAYLOR, whose round included Oxwich and Penrice in Jun qtr 1908 (Gower 11a 1884). They lived in Reynoldston and Daniel was a Naval Reservist.

At the outbreak of war he was in training and was immediately called up. He served as Able Seaman on HMS Good Hope, the flagship of Admiral Christopher CRADOCK.

He lost his life at the naval battle of Caronel, off Valpariso Chile on 1st Nov 1914, together with the Admiral and all hands.(926 men), sunk by the German Fleet of Admiral Maximilian von SPEE

Admiral Von SPEE would lose his life, just 5 weeks later on 8 Dec 1914 when his ship the Scharnhorst was sunk in the battle of the Falklands, by a British fleet under Admiral Frederick STURDEE.
